Why AdventureWomen?

Solo, Not Alone
AdventureWomen is more than a travel company. We are a relationship company. In fact, many of our guests choose to travel solo! Each trip offers a singular opportunity to make new friends and develop meaningful connections that often last for a lifetime.

Small Group Size
Our small group sizes—ranging from 8 to 15—set the stage for making lasting memories and real human connections and allow us to handpick top accommodations and unique dining experiences at every stop so you can travel with confidence and comfort.

Women-to-Women Experiences
Every AdventureWomen trip offers the opportunity to connect with local women artists, chefs, and entrepreneurs. We proudly support women-owned businesses around the world, opening doors to authentic experiences for our guests.

40+ Years of Creating Adventure for Women
Founded in 1982 by travel pioneer Susan Eckhart and purchased in 2017 by Judi Wineland (herself a travel icon as the one of the first women to launch an adventure travel company, and founder of Thomson Safaris, Thomson Treks, Thomson Family Adventures, and Thomson Collection), we are dedicated to helping women explore the world.

Our expert service team is with you each step of the way. We take care of every detail no matter how small, from the moment you select a journey until you arrive home. Your comfort is our #1 priority. Dietary restrictions? No problem. Packing questions? We can help!

Frequently Asked Questions
AdventureWomen was the very first company to offer adventure travel vacations, just for women, founded in 1982 by travel pioneer Susan Eckert. In 2016, Judi Wineland and her two daughters, Nicole and Erica, purchased the company, ensuring the spirit of AdventureWomen continues forward. In 1978, Judi was one of the first women to launch and run an adventure travel company, Overseas Adventure Travel. She later founded Thomson Safaris and subsequently created Thomson Treks, Thomson Family Adventures, and Thomson Collection. Judi, her daughters, her expert staff, and a worldwide team of expert travel guides ensure that AdventureWomen remains at the forefront of women’s adventure travel.
Absolutely! We happily welcome all women, as long as you are physically capable of doing the activities on your chosen trip. Our guests range from 18-85+! It is important to us to talk to each guest to make sure each woman chooses the right trip for her physical ability and interest.
Because women from any culture relish the freedom to experience new things away from limiting, societal expectations. We have a unique sense of discovery, an unabashed curiosity, the easy ability to laugh at ourselves, and the capacity to create a non-competitive environment of support and encouragement for each other. Under these circumstances, women feel free to challenge themselves with a trek up a mountain, learning to snorkel or scuba dive, or immersion in an unfamiliar culture. On an all-women’s trip, women tell us that they can be totally and unequivocally themselves.

Adventure travel blends the awe-inspiring sensations of exploring the world with the exhilaration of embracing the outdoors. Our trips weave the history, wildlife, culture — and local cuisine – of a destination around a range of activities. We believe that adventure travel is a state of mind, an approach to travel, and a way of seeing the world. Adventure travel, by its definition, requires that travelers be self-sufficient, flexible, accepting of situations as they exist, and open to other cultures, traditions, and experiences.
