On a Dynamic trip, you might:

  • Enjoy consecutive days of hiking/activities for up to 3-4 hours a day at low to moderate altitude
  • Encounter diverse terrain with uneven surfaces, gentle to moderate inclines, and natural obstacles such as a shallow creek crossing, and occasional rocky or root-covered paths 
  • Be comfortable and physically fit to cover an average distance of 5-8 miles on some days

Welcome to Kenya!

Welcome to Nairobi, the vibrant heart of Kenya! Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), you’ll be met by your AdventureWomen representative and transferred to your hotel. Most guests will join a scheduled group transfer, with exact timing confirmed closer to departure, or private transfers can be arranged. After checking in (available after 3 PM), enjoy a leisurely evening to unwind, settle in, and soak up the sights, sounds, and energy of this dynamic city as the perfect start to your Kenyan adventure.

Exploring Nairobi and Beyond

Begin your day with an early morning game drive in Nairobi National Park, where grasslands meet the city skyline and wildlife and black rhinoceros roam freely before visiting a wildlife trust. In the afternoon, explore the Giraffe Centre and Karen Blixen Museum with the potential to browse for souvenirs. The day concludes with a lively welcome dinner at your lodge, where you can share stories and connect with fellow AdventureWomen as your Kenyan journey unfolds.

Community Connections

This morning, visit One Horizon, an organization dedicated to sustainable programs that support local communities with nutrition, clean water, irrigation, electricity, vocational training, and housing. Participate in a one-day community activity, gaining a meaningful and educational experience while connecting with local residents. Enjoy a local lunch and learn about the positive impact of these programs. In the afternoon, return to your hotel for an overnight stay. Dinner is at your leisure, giving you time to relax and reflect on the day’s rewarding experiences.

Walking Safari Adventure Begins

After breakfast, take a private transfer to Wilson Airport for your one-hour flight to Loisaba Airstrip, departing at 10 AM. Upon arrival, local guides will transfer you to Tumaren Nayasura Camp, where a freshly prepared lunch and short afternoon rest await. In the late afternoon, set out on a walking safari, exploring the landscape and hoping to spot leopards, hyenas, or lions. End the day with sundowners on the rocks, followed by a refreshing shower and dinner under the stars. Walking Level: 2-3 miles on mostly gentle trails.

Trekking Through Laikipia’s Wildlife

Travel to your next camp in eastern Laikipia, north of Mt. Kenya, known for its rich wildlife and endangered species. Spend the day on a guided walking safari with an armed guide, a Maasai tracker, and camels carrying day packs and refreshments. Watch wildlife from dik-diks to elephants and learn about local culture along the way. Return to camp for lunch, a potential afternoon river swim, and an evening walk. End the day with hot bucket showers, fireside drinks, and dinner under the stars.

Wildlife and Rocks at Losera Moru

After a peaceful morning, set out toward an ancient rocky outcrop, scanning the ground for fresh animal tracks and the stories they tell. At Losera Moru, try bolted rock-climbing routes suitable for all levels and take in the epic views, keeping an eye out for leopards or striped hyenas. Complete the final hour of walking to Tumaren Camp, where lunch and dinner await. Walking Level: 5-7 miles over gentle, rolling trails with some rocks, mostly flat.

Maasai Mara Magic and Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Maasai Mara. Upon arrival at Kichwa Airstrip, guides and your vehicle will transfer you to camp for lunch. After some time to relax, gather for tea and cakes before heading out on an afternoon game drive, spotting wildebeest, zebras, antelope, lions, cheetahs, and elephants. Return to camp for dinner and an overnight stay under the Kenyan sky.

Game Drives in Maasai Mara

Spend the day exploring the Maasai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives in one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife ecosystems. Early drives take advantage of cooler hours, when predators are most active and the plains glow in golden light, offering chances to see elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, lions, and leopards. After lunch at camp, afternoon drives reveal a different rhythm as cheetahs, hippos, and hyenas emerge. Return to camp for dinner under the expansive African sky, reflecting on a day of unforgettable wildlife encounters.

Final Game Drives

Return to camp for lunch before preparing for a heartfelt farewell dinner with your AdventureWomen companions. Farewell to Kenya!

The group will be flying back from Maasai Mara today and will land at Wilson Airport in Nairobi by 1 PM. You may arrange international flights for any time after 5 PM today. Lunch will be on your own and there will be day-use privileges at the Four Points Sheraton Airport hotel. Complimentary airport shuttles to NBO airport will be available for your international flight.

Mara West Camp

Mara West Camp is located on the western edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, offering breathtaking views of the savannah. The camp features luxury tents and chalets, equipped with ensuite bathrooms. Dining options include the Kingfisher Restaurant, which serves a variety of dishes, and an outdoor dining area with panoramic views. The safari tents provide a bedroom within nature that is both comfortable and private, yet almost like sleeping outdoors.

Amenities: ensuite amenities with hot showers and flush toilets. Electric lighting and plug outlets are also found in each tent.

Absolutely! You belong here. AdventureWomen welcomes all women and individuals who identify as part of the women’s community. We celebrate all races, backgrounds, orientations, abilities, and ages. Our adventures reflect the vibrant diversity of our travelers.

You can process your registration on our online booking system or over the phone. Most deposits are $800. In many cases, and unless otherwise indicated, your deposit is transferable if you notify us in writing 120 before your trip departs.

Be sure to check the ‘What’s Included’ section of the trip you are interested in. Once you get to the departure city and meet the group, we often include most meals, all accommodations, all activities (although there might be an optional activity at an additional cost), transportation while on the adventure, qualified local guide(s) and some trips also include an AdventureWomen Ambassador. Our trips do not include airfare to/from the arrival and departure cities. Internal flights are included.

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it! Many of the women who travel with AdventureWomen come solo. For those that do not choose a single supplement, we pair you with a roommate. Usually, when we change accommodations on a trip, we will change roommates if we can, so you get a chance to know others in our group. A limited number of single supplements may be available for an additional charge.

That depends entirely on the trip! AdventureWomen adventure travel trips are rated according to the physical fitness level demanded by the included activities.

  • Level One: Easy Pace Our Easy Pace trips are thoughtfully designed for women who enjoy gentle activity, cultural immersion, and plenty of time to savor the scenery. They feature light walking, easy terrain like cobblestone streets or flat nature trails, and optional activities such as city tours, wildlife safaris, and scenic boat rides. This level offers a relaxed pace with flexible itineraries and minimal physical exertion.
  • Level Two: Moderate For women who enjoy staying active, balanced with some downtime, our Moderate trips offer a blend of movement and relaxation. Activities may include walking on gently rolling trails, with occasional uneven terrain like forest paths or shallow creek crossings. With activities like beginner kayaking or short e-bike excursions, this level is perfect for those eager to explore while trying something new.
  • Level Three: Dynamic Designed for adventurous women ready for a challenge, our Dynamic trips feature regular activity on varied terrain with moderate elevation gains. Expect natural obstacles such as rocky paths and shallow creek crossings. From glacier walks and whitewater rafting to ziplining and kayaking in calm to lightly-choppy waters, this level is perfect for those with hiking and outdoor experience and a sense of adventure.
  • Level Four: High Energy Our High Energy adventures are designed for women who crave being on the go! You should be prepared for full days of hiking across rugged, moderate-altitude terrain. With some steeper inclines and rocky paths, these trips often feature back-to-back adrenaline-fueled activities like canyoneering, multi-day treks, and Class IV whitewater rafting—perfect for experienced adventurers and hikers with good stamina and a passion for pushing their limits.
  • Level Five: Challenging Our Challenging trips are crafted for seasoned adventurers ready to take on remote, high-altitude terrain, and full-day treks. These trips are demanding yet deeply rewarding and designed for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. You should be in excellent physical condition and be able to hike up to 14 miles per day with steep ascents, rugged trails, and elevations reaching 19,500 feet. These are strenuous trips that require endurance and a commitment to training before departure.

A trip extension is an optional add-on to your main AdventureWomen itinerary. Extensions allow you to explore a destination more deeply, visit nearby regions, or enjoy additional activities before or after your scheduled trip.
