AdventureWomen®, Pioneer of Travel Tours for Women, Acquired by Wineland Trio
New York – September 19, 2016: WEILL has been appointed public relations counsel for AdventureWomen to launch the announcement of its acquisition by the Wineland Trio, which is comprised of Judi Wineland, President of Wineland-Thomson Adventures Inc., and her daughters Erica Landerson and Nicole Wineland-Thomson Quinones. The new company will operate as AdventureWomen®, LLC.
Founded in 1982 by Susan L. Eckert, AdventureWomen is a recognized leader in women’s travel, receiving accolades from top publications such as USA Today and US News & World Report. The company delivers quality-driven itineraries for active women of all ability levels throughout the world, including travel to India, Indonesia, Russia, Baffin Island, South Africa and 15 other destinations in 2017.
Following the acquisition, Eckert announced, “I am so excited about this next chapter in AdventureWomen’s history, as we take a bold step forward toward exciting new frontiers for the company. With Judi and her two daughters taking the reins, I know that AdventureWomen will have the innovative thinking and entrepreneurial energy of the next generation of women.”
A fellow pioneer in the adventure travel industry, Judi Wineland founded Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT) in 1978 and subsequently co-founded other award-winning adventure travel companies with her husband Rick Thomson, including: Thomson Safaris, Thomson Family Adventures and Thomson Treks. Wineland has been honored by the Adventure Travel Trade Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award and, for the past two years, was honored as one of the “Top 100 Women-led Businesses in Massachusetts” by the Boston Globe.
Her companies have been recognized by numerous publications such as Travel + Leisure, National Geographic and Condé Nast Traveler, as well as the Tanzania Tourist Board for their contributions to both the travel industry and country of Tanzania.
Wineland remarks, “Susan and I share many common experiences and an appreciation for the breadth and depth of travel experiences women seek. At AdventureWomen, we have a valuable heritage, which Erica, Nicole and I deeply respect and will always honor.”
In celebration of the launch, AdventureWomen will host the “AdventureWomen ROCK” sweepstakes from September 15 through November 15, 2016, with a grand prize of $2,017 towards one of its 2017 trips.
“We hope to continue to expand the destinations and unique and authentic experiences, which have made AdventureWomen a favorite among women for almost 35 years,” concludes Wineland.
Ann-Rebecca Laschever, Executive Vice President of Geoffrey Weill Associates, said: “We are excited to represent one of the original travel brands that pioneered trips for the adventurous woman and we look forward to working with its new team to help showcase AdventureWomen’s next chapter.”
