Welcome to Punta Arenas!

Arrive in Punta Arenas, Chile (PUQ) by 1:00 PM (no later than 3:00 PM). You’ll be greeted at the airport and transferred to the group hotel or take a taxi if arriving outside the transfer window. After check-in, head to the meeting room (open from 12:00 PM) to collect your boots and parka, and present luggage for weighing and biosecurity inspection. At 6:00 PM, gather for an engaging mandatory briefing, then enjoy a festive welcome dinner where you’ll meet your fellow adventurers and the expedition team who will guide your journey.

Fly the Drake

Enjoy breakfast before your charter flight from Punta Arenas to Antarctica enables you to cross the legendary Drake Passage in only two hours. Your first glimpse of dramatic Antarctic landscapes will be from a unique perspective, as your plane descends onto the South Shetland Islands. After landing, enjoy a transfer by Zodiac as your ship sets sail for the Antarctic Peninsula. Please note that the exact flying time will be weather dependent, and you will receive a full plan upon arrival in Punta Arenas.

Explore the stunning South Shetland Islands, where each day’s excursions are shaped by weather, sea conditions, and nature’s surprises. Excursions typically last one to three hours, with short, moderately challenging walks on varied terrain. Embark on unforgettable excursions, starting with a Zodiac landing on a shore bustling with thousands of penguins—an up-close encounter with Antarctica’s unique wildlife. Each landing offers new sights and photo opportunities, and soon you’ll recognize Adélie, gentoo, and chinstrap penguins. Between excursions, relax on the ship—read, play games, soak in the heated pool with jacuzzis, or book a spa treatment. Weather permitting, those with reservations can enjoy tandem sea kayaking, guided by the Expedition Team, for a thrilling perspective of Antarctica’s pristine waters.

Hiking and Learning

Step ashore for an unforgettable day of hiking exploration. At each landing site, our expert team sets safe perimeters and paths, giving you the freedom to hike and discover at your own pace. Guides are always nearby to answer questions and share insights into the wildlife, history, and geography surrounding you. Back onboard, gather for engaging presentations led by naturalists, historians, photographers, and guest experts, who bring Antarctica’s history, biology, ornithology, glaciology, and geology to life.

Take the Polar Plunge Challenge

On your final day in Antarctica, take part in a once in a lifetime experience: Polar Plunge! Under the supervision of an expert team, take part in this exhilarating activity. Then, work with a photography expert to capture the beauty of the region. This evening, reflect on the incredible journeys and memories made during a farewell dinner as you conclude an amazing adventure through this remarkable region.

Disembark and Fly to Punta Arenas

After your week of exploration, say goodbye to your Expedition Team and disembark at King George Island. Your two-hour flight across the Drake Passage to Punta Arenas brings your adventure to an end. Lunch will be served on board the ship or during your flight. After your group transfer to the hotel, you are free to explore and enjoy an evening on your own, in the city or at the hotel, to reminisce about the sights and sounds of Antarctica

Depart Punta Arenas

After breakfast, you are welcome to continue your own travels or make your way to Punta Arenas airport (PUQ) for your homeward flights. Taxis are easily available, and your hotel can help coordinate your transfer to the airport

Absolutely! We happily welcome all women as long as you are physically capable of doing the activities on your chosen trip. Our guests range from 18-85+! It is important to us to talk to each guest to make sure each woman chooses the right trip for her physical ability and interest.

You can process your registration on our online booking system or over the phone. Most deposits are $800. In many cases, and unless otherwise indicated, your deposit is transferable if you notify us in writing 120 before your trip departs.

Be sure to check the ‘What’s Included’ section of the trip you are interested in. Once you get to the departure city and meet the group, we often include most meals, all accommodations, all activities (although there might be an optional activity at an additional cost), transportation while on the adventure, qualified local guide(s) and some trips also include an AdventureWomen Ambassador. Our trips do not include airfare to/from the arrival and departure cities. However, internal flights are included in some itineraries so please read the itinerary carefully.

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it! Many of the women who travel with AdventureWomen come solo. For those that do not choose a single supplement, we pair you with a roommate. Usually, when we change accommodations on a trip, we will change roommates if we can, so you get a chance to know others in our group. A limited number of single supplements may be available for an additional charge.

That depends entirely on the trip! AdventureWomen adventure travel trips are rated according to the physical fitness level demanded by the included activities.

  • Moderate: These adventures exercise your mind more than your body and are designed for women who prefer a leisurely, less rigorous experience. For example, you could walk up to 2 miles per day through cities and villages, stand in museums for a few hours, relax on a boat, or view wildlife from a vehicle.
  • Active: Adventures that get you on your feet! You should be in good physical condition where you are comfortable walking on uneven surfaces, such as cobblestone streets, biking manicured nature trails or kayaking calm waters.
  • High Energy: These adventures are designed for women who enjoy a physical challenge and crave being on the go! You should be prepared for itineraries that include (but are not limited to): a full day of biking on a rolling terrain, hiking 5-8 miles on moderate to steep trails, being active at high altitudes, whitewater rafting, or skiing.
  • Challenging: Adventures that get your heart rate pumping, these are demanding yet deeply rewarding and designed for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. You should be in excellent physical condition, and be able to hike up to 10 miles, in steeper, more rugged terrain.
