Q&A with June S., “Just Show Up and Have the Time of Your Life”

What’s something that no one would guess about you?

That I still like to play like a kid. Making snow angels on my AdventureWomen trip channeled long ago childhood joy.

When did you start traveling with AdventureWomen?

Early March 2020, just in the nick of time before the pandemic was in full swing. It was my first time ever to take a trip like this on my own, not knowing anyone!

Why did you choose AdventureWomen?

The company name says it all. The trip was packed with incredible active adventures and the small group, women-only model facilitated cohesiveness and instant friendships. The Ambassador made everyone feel welcomed from the get-go. It was clear upfront that everything was organized on your behalf, so you didn’t have to sweat the details. Just show up and have the time of your life.

How many trips have you been on?

1…so far

What was your favorite trip and why?

The Canadian Rockies adventure was beyond amazing. A different winter sport each day led by an expert and fun-loving guide. Add to that a fabulous Nordic spa experience, great food, and instantaneous friendships with incredible women from all walks of life. It was so well-organized, and the accommodations were wonderful. A personal side bonus was it gave me the incentive to get back on track with a fitness routine well in advance, so I’d be ready to tackle each sport.

If you could be doing anything, anywhere right now, what, and where would it be?

In the midst of the pandemic, my dream is to travel once again to be with far away family.

What’s one thing you’ve had to overcome in your life?

Starting over on my own after the unexpected end of a 30 -year marriage. Happy to say there was, indeed, light at the end of the tunnel and my AdventureWomen trip is living proof!

What’s the most important thing to you?

My family. They were so supportive of me going on my first AdventureWomen trip, before (encouraging the fitness ramp-up), during (daily updates), and after (all those pictures!).

If you could describe AdventureWomen in ONE word, what would it be?

Superior!

Anything else you’d like to share with the AW community?

If you’re unsure whether you can do some of the activities, rest assured you’ll receive training and encouragement throughout the trip. Fat tire biking on snow had me petrified, but I did it and even survived a few falls into fluffy soft snowbanks! Come with a spirit of adventure and fun and leave with a feeling of accomplishment, new friends, and treasured memories.
