The trip is centered around Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, which serves as an ideal base for exploring the region’s renowned wine route and picturesque villages.

The itinerary showcases the best of Alsatian culture, with a particular focus on its world-famous Christmas markets. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the magical ambiance of these markets in several locations, including Obernai, Colmar, Eguisheim, and Strasbourg itself. These markets offer a feast for the senses, with twinkling lights, festive decorations, local crafts, and traditional holiday treats.

Culinary experiences are a highlight of this trip, featuring traditional Alsatian meals and a private cooking class with a local chef. Day 1

Arrive in Strasbourg, France

Arrive at Strasbourg Airport (SBX) by 1 PM today. A group transfer from the airport to your hotel will be provided when most guests arrive. The exact transfer time will be determined closer to departure. Each person is allowed one checked bag and one carry-on for the group transfer. If you have additional luggage, please contact your AdventureWomen Trip Manager to discuss alternative arrangements. Private transfers at other times are available for purchase.

(If you arrive by train, the hotel is a short 12-minute car ride from the Strasbourg train station. You can easily get a taxi right at the train station to take you to the hotel.)

Day 2

The Alsace Wine Route: Sélestat and Obernai

Sélestat, nestled in the heart of the Alsace region, is a captivating town renowned for its rich history and vibrant culture. It features an impressive array of medieval architecture and hosts the Humanist Library, a UNESCO-listed gem showcasing an extraordinary collection of Renaissance manuscripts and books. With its charming streets, bustling markets, and annual events like the Christmas market, Sélestat offers visitors a delightful blend of historical depth and local charm.

Drive the Alsace Wine Route, which features a series of picturesque villages, stunning landscapes, renowned winegrowing towns, and passionate winemakers. Stop along the way for a unique three-course lunch.

This afternoon, discover Obernai’s Christmas Market featuring around 40 chalets selling a variety of local gastronomic specialties and artisanal crafts. In this exclusive commented visit of the market, you can expect to find stalls offering delicious treats, local wine, jams, and Christmas beer. The market is also known for its unique mulled wine. Discover a treasure trove of handicrafts, including Christmas wreaths and decorations. The market is set against the backdrop of Obernai’s illuminations and natural fir decorations highlighting the town’s historic buildings.

Dinner will be on your own tonight. Your hotel is situated in the historic centre of Strasbourg and is an ideal starting point to explore restaurants within easy walking distance. Your guide can also suggest great restaurants to try.

Day 3

The Alsace Wine Route: Colmar and Eguisheim

Embark on another captivating journey along the renowned Alsace Wine Route, where the charming town of Colmar awaits. Meander through the narrow, colorful streets of this wine capital, lose yourself in the enchanting quarter of Little Venice, where picturesque canals and half-timbered houses create a fairytale-like ambiance, and enjoy your exclusive commented visit of the Christmas Market. The markets are filled with wooden chalets selling local foods and handmade ornaments, pottery, toys, and other crafts. The entire town is decked out in twinkling lights, with illuminated buildings and festive decorations everywhere.

Following a traditional 3-course lunch, head to Eguisheim, a medieval village ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France and located just 3 miles from Colmar. Let yourself be charmed by its picturesque streets, half-timbered houses, castle, and surrounding vineyards. In this exclusive commented visit, discover authentic Alsatian crafts like pottery, glassblowing, and intricate gingerbread houses made by local artisans. Explore traditional foods and Alsatian wine served at the chalets. Eguisheim’s market has been awarded the “Villes et Villages de Noël” label for its authenticity and traditions.

Following this visit, return to the hotel for an evening at leisure.

The Lalique Museum

Following breakfast, drive to the Lalique Museum, located about 35 miles from Strasbourg. Discover the museum’s exceptional collection of over 650 pieces showcasing the diversity of Lalique’s work across jewelry, perfume bottles, vases, chandeliers, and tableware. Exhibits are organized thematically, tracing the evolution of the Lalique brand from René Lalique’s beginnings as a goldsmith to his transition into glassmaking, and the later crystal works by his son Marc. Admire intricate jewelry designs, glass dishes, modern crystal creations, and more, highlighting Lalique’s creativity and craftsmanship.

After your visit, enjoy a 3-course lunch at the restaurant of Château Hochberg where Chef Barberis and his team will offer you a refined menu built around seasonal local products. Dishes are inspired by Barberis’ travels around the world and his native South of France.

Return to Strasbourg for a memorable culinary experience under the expert guidance of a talented Alsatian chef, who warmly welcomes you into her home in “La Petite France”, Strasbourg’s historic neighborhood. Explore the “emotional cuisine,” a unique concept blending three artistic dimensions: a passion for cooking, poetry, and painting. Conclude this immersive experience with a delightful tasting session, savoring your creations transformed into a high-quality 3-course dinner and associated beverages (wines, crémant, saké, and soft drinks).

Strasbourg

Embark on an exclusive guided tour that unveils the culinary treasures and rich heritage of Strasbourg. Savor the region’s renowned specialties, indulge in the iconic kugelhopf, a brioche-like delicacy that has become an Alsatian staple, and delight in the aromatic gingerbread. Embrace the tangy flavors of traditional sauerkraut, perfectly complemented by a glass of the region’s celebrated Riesling wine. Savor the rich and creamy local cheeses and let your taste buds be seduced by the exquisite French pastries. Please note that lunch is part of this gourmet tour.

In between these gourmet stops, immerse yourself in the historical heart of Strasbourg. Wander through the picturesque quarter of “La Petite France” and marvel at the architectural grandeur of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, a Gothic masterpiece.

Next, embark on a non-privatized boat tour that offers a unique perspective on the European capital from the canals.

Baden-Baden, Germany

After breakfast, explore the Mediterranean-like nature and charm of Baden-Baden, a cultural, thermal, and green town located 50 minutes away from Strasbourg. Over the course of a day, discover this surprising town and its rich and diverse cultural heritage. Indulge in lunch at a typical restaurant before wandering around the rolling scenic route of the Black Forest, taking in spectacular landscapes and vistas. Follow the scenic route until you reach the shores of the Mummelsee glacial lake, a true gem where you can indulge in a gourmet break, savoring the flavors of the local cuisine.

Return to Strasbourg and enjoy a farewell dinner with your new AdventureWomen friends. Reflect on the cherished memories you’ve created and celebrate the conclusion of an amazing journey through this truly remarkable part of the world.

Depart from Strasbourg

(If you leave by train, the hotel is about a 12-minute car ride from the Strasbourg train station. You can easily get a taxi right at the train station to take you to the hotel.)

A group transfer from the airport to your hotel will be provided when most guests arrive. The exact transfer time will be determined closer to departure (please note that each person is allowed one checked bag and one carry-on for the group transfer. If you have additional luggage, please contact your AdventureWomen Trip Manager to discuss alternative arrangements.). Private transfers at other times are available for purchase.

Kindly be advised that the airport transfer package includes allowance for a maximum of 1 checked bag and 1 carry-on bag per person per trip (this is applicable on both arrival and departure days). Should you have additional luggage, please inform us in advance, and we will ensure the provision of a suitable vehicle to accommodate your needs (additional fee may apply).

We are happy to help you make your flight and travel arrangements. If you’d like to do anything prior to or following the AdventureWomen trip, we’d be delighted to help you arrange any trip extensions you’re interested in.

Note: The recent trend in travel is for travelers to finalize their plans much closer to departure time than was customary in the past. While we try to be as flexible as possible booking last-minute registrants, we must release hotel rooms two to three months prior to departure! Please keep this in mind when making your travel plans.

Gratuities  

Gratuities are a personal decision and are at your own discretion based on your level of satisfaction with the service provided. Gratuities are dependent upon the number of guests on your departure, and they vary greatly from trip to trip. As a general reference, AdventureWomen suggests you plan for $125-$175 (or more) worth of gratuities for this adventure. Specific tipping recommendations for your trip will be provided to you closer to your departure date and may fluctuate due to inflation, exchange rates, and the number of travelers on your trip.

Activity Level

We rate this trip as Moderate. Moderate adventure trips exercise your mind more than your body and are designed for women who prefer a leisurely, less rigorous experience. For example, you could walk up to 2 miles per day through cities and villages, stand in museums for a few hours, relax on a boat, or view wildlife from a vehicle. Please note that this is a general description of what you might encounter; for specific details about your trip, please consult the itinerary.

Forms and Final Payment

The deposit for this trip is $800. You can transfer your deposit to another trip with no additional fee if you notify us within 120 days of the original trip departure date. We can hold your deposit for up to six months as a credit. Failure to book a new trip within this timeframe will result in the forfeiture of your deposit.

Once you book, you will need to fill out and return to AdventureWomen:

Final payment is due to AdventureWomen in a cash form (check, money order, or wire transfer). A maximum of $1,500 per person can be put on a credit card, which includes your deposit.
